Sunflower Day Nursery crediton/
Sunflower Day Nursery and Pre-School at Crediton is situated by Queen Elizabeth’s community college at the top of the high Street. Previously a chapel, in January 2001 it was converted into a Children’s Day Nursery and first opened its doors on the 30th April 2001 and was the first nursery in Crediton to open its doors to under 2 provision. The nursery has gone from strength to strength and has been rated ‘Outstanding’ consecutively by Ofsted in 2010 and 2015.
With a range of resources available the staff are able to support your child’s learning through planned opportunities of play that encourages children to become independent learners. Children here can play and explore with resources that they know, become engaged and motivated in their learning and have their own ideas to manipulate the play so that they can create and make links to real life experiences in the home, nursery and community.
Facilities/
The setting has two entrances for ease of access one on the ground floor and one on the first floor.
Through the ground floor back entrance, we have our garden, a moderate size that has been planned to encourage both indoor and outdoor opportunities for learning through play. It is equipped with a climbing wall, sand/water tray, mark making and weaving boards and a role playhouse as well as a basketball hoop for the ball games. An extension to our outside area is our climbing and soft play space that allows further opportunities to develop the gross motor skills children require to negotiate space.
In 2016 we were approached by Crediton Council to work in partnership to enhance opportunities and a love for the outdoors in young children. We took the opportunity to visit and maintain the nature area in People’s Park Green, for children at Sunflower Day Nursery they have regular opportunities to visit the area to refill the bird feeders and investigate the animals and insects that live there. With everything on our doorstep we are able to also visit the local park and shops, you may have seen us out and about with our walking crocodile with children and staff wearing the high Vis jackets.
The ground floor situates the 0-2 year-olds, with a separate low-level division for the under 1’s. It has both carpet and lino to allow for the range of activities that occur during the day as well as an area for meals. The nursery unit is designed to care for the children and support their individual needs and well-being, it is for most their first experience of daycare so the practitioners make every effort to ensure that children feel nurtured, cherished and developed. Therefore attention to their individual care routines is catered for to help the transition to nursery be smooth for both the child, parents and carers. This unit also has the kitchen, changing facilities, toilets and a sleeping room that accommodates children’s needs during the day.
As we make our way to the first floor you are welcomed by a bright entrance hall and our main reception. Here you will also find the office. Through the double doors, you will be surprised at the large, light and airy room that awaits you and what is our 2-5 year provision. Equipped with large windows and air conditioning unit the room provides warmth and coolness all year round.
This room has been designed to accommodate the needs of 2 year-olds while improving opportunities for them to interact and engage with the Pre-School children. With a low-level divide that separates the two rooms each room has a routine that is structured to support the cohort of children that attend to meet the array of individual needs. Both the 2-year room and Pre-School room provides a wealth of opportunities for learning through the continuous provision. It has designated role play, construction, math, mark making malleable and small world areas that the children can access during the day. Furthermore, we have access to a literacy/sleep room and toilet facilities on the same floor.
With the new financial year upon us, we are writing to inform you that there will be an increase to fees as of 01 April 2021. At Sunflower Day Nursery we do not change our fees without a lot of thought. Due to the financial climate and increase to minimum wage rates rising and utility bills increasing, the reasons for this increase are genuine and unavoidable. Although these fees are to increase we have taken a considerable length of time looking at all aspects of affordability to ensure that our fees remain competitive and that we offer outstanding care and education for children that attend.
Please contact the nursery directly for the fees & more information.
