Care of your Child
At Sunflower Day Nursery we are committed to providing you and your family with the best in nursery care and early learning, whilst also giving you the peace of mind knowing that your child is cared for in a safe and happy environment. We are here to meet your child’s physical, social, emotional and educational needs whilst ensuring that you are kept up to date with their progress.

We are registered with Ofsted to care for up to 45 children between the ages of 0-8 years. The setting has a designated baby room with an adjacent sleeping area and a large room for children aged 2 years and above. Visits are arranged where questions can be asked, information shared and a chance to become more familiar with the nursery setting. We also encourage Home Visits as we feel seeing your child at home helps us to see the whole picture and gain a better understanding of them. We are very proud of our Ofsted report, where we achieved four areas that are classed as OUTSTANDING.

The Nursery has a team of nine Nursery Nurses who are experienced, enthusiastic and qualified to NVQ Level 3 or above in Childcare. Staff are also trained in Food Hygiene, First Aid and Fire Safety. All our staff are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked.
Learning through Play
Throughout the nursery we follow and plan for the Early Years Foundation Stage, which emphasises the importance of learning through play. Each room also provide a structured activity that meets the children’s current interests. This will allow them to gain social skills enabling them to share with others whilst having fun at the same time. Your child’s development and success is recorded in their own individual celebration folders through photographs and observations – these are available for you to browse through when you have a spare moment and there are always staff members around to answer any questions you may have. Regular parent feedback is helpful to help us improve our service. This includes the use of parent’s evenings, open day’s questionnaires and a suggestion box.

There are opportunities for outdoor play on a daily basis; one of the strengths of the Racecourse setting is that the building is suitable to enjoy free flow activities. The nursery has a beautiful outside play space incorporating a role play area, an obstacle course, a patio surface for bikes and a gardening plot, where the children are encouraged to help plant and care for their own fruit and vegetables. The children also have access to the Racecourse estate where they can indulge in educational nature walks with staff.
All children are allocated a Key worker who is responsible for building good working relationships with your child and yourself. This is a special member of staff who will ensure that they will get to know your child well and with whom you can exchange information about your child’s routines and progress. After each session individual key workers will sum up your child’s day and progress. As all children are different each child will settle in a different way, a flexible approach is essential to enable the children to feel secure and the parents are comfortable when leaving their child.
