Courtenay Park

ourtenay Park is situated within a four minute walk to the Train Station in Newton Abbot. We are fortunate enough to be on the beautifully kept park, and have a great view overlooking trees and the bowling green.

We welcome children from the age of 0 to 8 years. The nursery is open Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm. Sessions are also available from 8pm to 12.30pm and from 1.30pm to 6pm.

We are fortunate enough to have promoted ourselves into the top leagues of Childcare this year by achieving an OUTSTANDING Ofsted report in all areas of Inspection. We are thrilled, and have developed the setting too. We have repainted all areas of the Nursery, and put up over forty new display boards throughout the building. We have re-carpeted the ground floor, and most of all, have put soft flooring outside in the playground area, so that our children can be safer than ever.

The setting of this Nursery could not be better. We go across to the park a lot, use the facilities there and the space, to collect conkers, play ball, and to run around. What an idyllic setting we have. All of our staff are trained and many are training to the next level of childcare. For example, we have a cook who is also studying for her level three qualification in childcare, as well as a Manager Sue, who has a wealth of knowledge gained through her experiences over many years, and is also studying more childcare qualifications at this time.

The Nursery has a team of ten Nursery Nurses who are experienced, enthusiastic and qualified to NVQ Level 3 or above in Childcare. Staff are also trained in Food Hygiene, First Aid and Fire Safety. All our staff are Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked. This is vital so that we can gain the trust and level of care that we all expect for our own children!

As you can see from the photos, we have a lot of fun here. The staff are inventive in their ideas, plan appropriately for the children and develop fabulous relationships with the parents as well as the children in their groups.

When a parent comes to look around, they must expect to be with us for quite some time, as it is imperative for us to give you a proper look around the setting. we feel that a new parent needs time to take it all in, see what we are about and develop a good link with us from the outset.

Once you join us, you will fill in some forms, and we will invite you to come in for some visits, not before we ask if you would like a home visit from us, in order to improve communication from the start. Your child will be gently settled. We recognise that this time is difficult for parents and do our very best to help you through this time as well. Just talk to us, tell us your fears and worries, we will do whatever we can to make the process easy for you as well as your child. The use of a Key Worker for your child usually helps a lot in this situation.

Of course, all of our children are encouraged to play and be happy; they are given a Celebration File, and planned for thoroughly. We observe your children in their play and actively plan for their development in all that we do.

Thank you for looking at our site, and we welcome you to visit us at any time, pop in look round!

Managers view of Courtenay Park

As manager of the nursery I share the owners vision of providing an “Outstanding” environment where the children in our care can be “Nurtured, Cherished and Develop”.Sunflowers Day Nursery at Courtenay Park is a Grade II listed Georgian building that has been carefully adapted and refurbished to provide a warm, secure, safe and stimulating environment for children to grow, with support from the trained and experienced childcare staff team members, and develop to their full potential whilst also having lots of fun discovering new and exciting things.

The staff team members are very dedicated and professional in their approach in supporting children in their development and learning. The management team ensures that all team members have access to training, which will enable them to develop as professionals in childcare and education thus enabling Sunflowers Day Nursery to provide parents and carers of children under 5’s with outstanding quality care and education of their precious little ones.

Activities are planned for the children based on their interests and development needs. The staff team follow the guidelines as set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage documentation. Relations built with Parents and carers are very important to the team at Sunflowers, they work in close partnership with parents and carers to ensure that their wishes, concerns and ideas of their child’s development are adhere to at all times.
